    Hand colored photograph of 1904 Grand Prix de Paris  winner Ajax with jockey Georges Stern and trainer Denman
    measures 8 3/4 x 6 1/4 inches
    This original circa 1904 photo has the stamp of photographer Jean Delton on the reverse with identifications in pencil. Ajax, 1901-1915 was an undefeated thoroughbred who sired Union and Teddy. His daughters produced the undefeated Havresac et al. Stern was nicknamed King of the Derbies and King of the Jockeys.
    This antique photograph came with a number of horse racing items that belonged to Walter S. Vosburgh, an original member of The Jockey Club, turf historian ( author of American Racing, 1866-1921 ), official handicapper for various racing associations, including New York race tracks from 1894-1934 and for whom the Vosburgh Stakes at Belmont Park are named.
