    Description

    Harry Bassett was Champion of his age group in 1870, 1871 and 1872. He won the 1871 Belmont Stakes among other major wins. Sired by Lexington out of Canary Bird he won 23 times , placed five times and finished third 3 times in 36 races. He was elected to the US Racing  Hall of Fame in 2010.
    This engraving was likely removed from a period publication. It measures 6 7/8 x 5 inches on paper backing measuring 9 5/8 x 8 inches.
    This print
    came with a number of horse racing items that belonged to Walter S. Vosburgh, an original member of The Jockey Club, turf historian ( author of American Racing, 1866-1921 etc. ), official handicapper for various racing associations, including New York race tracks from 1894-1934 and for whom the Vosburgh Stakes at Belmont Park are named.
