    Description

    Measures 11 1/4 x 9 1/8 inches. Salvator (1886-1909) was one of the top racehorses of the 19th century. Born in California and bred on Lexington, KY he was sired by Prince Charlie from Salina. His Grandsire was Black Athol and his Damsire was Lexington. He had several major wins and won 16 of 19 races. He was US Champion 3-Yr Old Colt in 1889 and Horse of the Year 1889 & 1890. Elected to the US Hall of Fame, he is the namesake of the Salvator Mile Handicap at Monmouth Park.
    Image came with a number of horse racing items that belonged to Walter S. Vosburgh, an original member of The Jockey Club, turf historian ( author of American Racing, 1866-1921 etc.), official handicapper for various racing associations, including New York race tracks from 1894-1934 and for whom the Vosburgh Stakes at Belmont Park is named
